Today we’re talking about a high-security cylinder with a very special technology. It comes from Austrian company DORMA-KABA, one of the leaders in access control and security. Expert Cross is the flagship of the Austrico brand, and offers a very high level of security.

The body

The Kaba Expert Cross has a unique, non-modular body, which makes it more secure, but it also relies on a special unbreakable technology called LAM. This system consists of 3 hardened steel plates embedded in the single body, making it a truly robust cylinder.

The internal mechanism is pin-based, with a mixture of conventional and pointed pins. There are no less than four radial rows of 25 pins, arranged in different increments to strike the key at different points and angles. Inside are two active pins that align a moving ball in the key. The springs and pins are located only in the round part of the cylinder (the head). Therefore, even if the lower part of the cylinder is pierced, it is impossible to access the spring compartment. The housing also contains a hardened steel anti-pin. Despite the 25 pins inside, key insertion is very specific and smooth, as is rotation, which is frictionless during movement.

The key

The Kaba Expert Cross Lam key is made from ALPACCA, a lightweight, durable material. Its rounded shape prevents damage even in the event of an accidental drop.

The key is flat and symmetrical. This feature makes the key reversible, with a very small, unobtrusive shape. The key features an active pin that can move freely and is not limited by springs. This detail is important for two reasons: firstly, it protects against illegal copying of the key by 3D or 4D printing, and secondly, the two active pins in the cylinder that align the ball are very difficult to manipulate. The length of the key neck is approximately 17 mm, making the cylinder 100% compatible with magnetic or mechanical protection devices.
